In adherence to constitutional provisions of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Kaduna state Council, has inaugurated a 3-man credential committee for the conduct of its forthcoming elections scheduled for December 16, 2024.
The Asma’u led Executives while relying on Article 5 of the NUJ 2023 constitution as amended, maintained that the constitution empowers the setting of Credential Committee 90 days before the expiration of the tenure of the subsisting Central Working Committee (CWC)
While presiding over a monthly congress at the Union’s secretariat on Thursday, the Chairman of the Council, Asma’u Yawo Halilu stressed on the need for qualified members of the Union to be nominated as members of the Committee as stipulated by the constitution.
Meanwhile, the 3-man Committee which included Mr. Shindong Bala of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Babangida Abdullahi of Freedom Radio, and Mr. Frederick Peters of Kabido Chapel respectively was nominated and ratified at the floor of the congress.
The committee has been saddled with the responsibility of organizing a hitch-free election for the Union.
Comrade Asma’u, while inaugurating the electoral committee called on members of the committee to discharge their duties without bias in the interest of the Union and its members.
She added that their appointment was a true test of their integrity which must not for whatever reason be dented.
