The Youth Reformation and Leadership Development Foundation (YRLDF) has responded to recent allegations made by the Young Guardians of Accountability (YGA) against the Defence Minister, Badaru Abubakar, stating that the accusations are misguided and attempt to tarnish the Minister’s reputation.

In a statement, the national President of YRLDF Dr, Awwal Aliyu Abdullahi, emphasized that politics is a vocation, not a business profession, and that the Defence Minister has demonstrated his commitment to serving the nation. The President urged the YGA to focus on constructive investigation, starting from the grassroots, rather than making unfounded allegations.

“The statement maintained that “Engagement in Private Business Activities. The Minister’s business activities are well-established and transparent, with no new ventures undertaken while in office.

“The Minister’s directorship roles are passive, with no influence exerted on business decisions.The Minister’s involvement with BDCs is legitimate and governed by financial laws and regulations.

“The Minister’s filing of annual returns confirms his transparency and commitment to accountability.These reputable agencies have scrutinized the Minister’s activities, finding no evidence of wrongdoings.

The YRLDF national President called on the YGA to be more nationalistic, realistic, and constructive in their anti-corruption advocacy, urging them to build the nation rather than disintegrate it. The Foundation requested the anti-graft agencies to investigate the YGA’s allegations and confirm the Minister’s integrity.

“The Youth Reformation and Leadership Development Foundation stands by the Defence Minister, commending his commitment to serving the nation. The Foundation reiterated its commitment to advocating for transparency, accountability, and good governance in Nigeria.

In a political landscape already saturated with recycled ambitions, the proposed alliance among Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and Peter Obi for the 2027 elections appears more like a rerun of a tired sitcom than a beacon of hope for Nigeria’s future. This coalition, ostensibly formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu, seems to be unraveling before it even gains momentum.

Former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has cast doubt on the coalition’s ability to unseat President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. Shekarau described the alliance as a gathering of individuals with personal political ambitions rather than a structured and unified opposition front. He emphasized that none of the key figures involved represent their party leadership, stating, “This is just a gathering of certain individuals with political ambitions; none of them has officially consulted their party leadership.” Shekarau further argued that a coalition featuring prominent figures does not necessarily equate to an effective political alliance, highlighting that only registered parties could formally unite, making the recent gathering an informal arrangement rather than an officially recognized coalition.

Further complicating the coalition’s narrative, Buba Galadima, a prominent leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and close ally of Rabiu Kwankwaso, has dismissed claims of any existing agreement between the North and South regarding the 2027 presidential election. Galadima emphasized that opposition parties should prioritize ensuring credible and fair elections over regional considerations, stating, “Anybody who tells you there is any understanding or agreement between the North and South, tell him he’s a liar.”

The Patriots, a body of elder statesmen and leaders of thought in Nigeria, have also distanced themselves from the coalition. Led by former Commonwealth Secretary-General Chief Emeka Anyaoku, The Patriots are focused on advocating for constitutional reforms to address Nigeria’s systemic challenges. According to their Secretary General, Comrade Olawale Okunniyi, the organization is committed to bringing about a new Nigeria that works for all, emphasizing that their efforts are non-partisan and aimed at achieving a popularly agreed constitution.

As this coalition of political journeymen attempts to present a united front, the reality suggests a fragile alliance riddled with contradictions and personal ambitions. Nigerians are left to wonder whether this coalition is genuinely about national interest or merely a recycled cast of characters seeking another shot at the limelight. As the 2027 elections approach, perhaps it’s time for the electorate to demand fresher faces and ideas, rather than settling for this rerun of political ambitions past their expiration dates.

Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru has arrested six commissioners over alleged involvement in breach of a contract for the construction of 140 housing units for Izzo and Amaze communities.

The arrested commissioners are Professor Omari Omaka (Tertiary Education), Victor Chukwu (Environment), Ifeanyi Ogbuewu (Culture and Tourism), Uchenna Igwe (Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters), Moses Ekuma (Health) and Felix Igboke (Project Monitoring).

The Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Mr Timothy Nwachi, was also suspended.

It was gathered that the affected commissioners before their arrest, were declared wanted by the state government.

The governor, who spoke to newsmen in Abakaliki through the Chairman of the State Executive Council Committee on Izzo and Amaze Housing Project, Ilang Donatus, said the government felt that the affected commissioners and contractors have breached the terms and conditions of the contract given to them by the government.

Reports say that the affected commissioners and the contractors were accused of sabotaging the plan of the governor, Francis Nwifuru, to commission the housing units to mark his two years anniversary in the state.

“The governor is not happy over the pace of the work which ought to have been completed. The government has decided to clamp down on the contractors and commissioners who were mandated to supervise those projects.

“As you can see, our governor is a man with a passionate heart, he likes giving succour, hence the building of those houses for the victims of the communal crisis.

“He is not happy that the project is delayed and has ordered the arrest of all the commissioners who were supposed to ensure the speedy completion of the housing units,” Donatus said.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Mobilisation, Ebonyi Central, Mrs Maria Okohu who is member of the Executive Council Committee, said that non-completion of the projects by the contractors and the failure of some of the commissioners to strictly supervise them as directed by the government is an act of sabotage.

The governor, through the committee, insisted that the arrests will continue until all the commissioners and contractors involved are brought to book and as well do the needful.

It was gathered that the Nigeria Police has equally issued invitation letters to some of the fleeing commissioners and contractors who where not at home at the time the committee visited.

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has lauded the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his swift and decisive actions following the tragic killing of travelers in Uromi, Edo State, on March 27, 2025.

The victims, who were from Bankure Local Government Area of Kano State, were brutally murdered by an illegal vigilante group operating outside the official security framework of the state.

In a statement signed by the Executive Director of CISLAC, Comrade Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, the organization expressed strong support for Governor Okpebholo’s handling of the aftermath of the horrific incident.

The governor not only visited the bereaved families in Kano State to offer his condolences but also assured them of his commitment to justice.

In addition, Governor Okpebholo announced the immediate suspension of all vigilante groups in Edo State and the suspension of the Edo State Security Corps Commander, CP Friday Ibadin (Rtd.), after it was revealed that the vigilante group responsible for the killings was operating illegally.

As a civil society organization dedicated to promoting good governance, rule of law, and the protection of human rights, CISLAC strongly supports the governor’s actions, especially the disbanding of unregulated vigilante groups that pose a serious threat to public safety and the rule of law.

The organization commended the governor for taking a firm stance on ensuring that all security organizations operate within legal frameworks, thus fostering an environment where citizens’ rights are upheld.

“We commend the swift investigation by the Edo State government, which has already led to the arrest of 14 suspects, and we welcome the assurance from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure justice is served,” the statement reads.

CISLAC also applauds Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and their families, emphasizing that the perpetrators will be apprehended and prosecuted.

The collaboration between the Edo and Kano State governments is also hailed as an exemplary model for other Nigerian leaders, showcasing the importance of unity, compassion, and decisive leadership during times of tragedy.

“This tragedy should serve as a reminder of the need for strong leadership and cross-regional solidarity,” the statement continues.

“CISLAC acknowledges Governor Okpebholo’s efforts as a significant step in fostering peace and solidarity between the northern and southern regions of Nigeria, particularly at a time when such incidents can easily sow division.”

The organization also commended the people of Edo State, especially those in Uromi, who risked their lives to save some of the victims. Their brave actions reflect the values of empathy, courage, and unity that transcend ethnic and regional boundaries, further emphasizing the collective spirit that binds Nigerians together.

CISLAC calls on all levels of government to prioritize the welfare and protection of citizens, ensure justice for victims of violence, and promote peaceful coexistence across Nigeria.

The organization urges the Edo State government to follow through on its commitment to dismantling unregistered security groups and to strengthen the legal framework for community security to prevent such tragedies in the future.

For Nigeria, embracing this solution is not an option but a necessity if we are to leapfrog development hurdles and secure a prosperous energy future.

One of the most crucial areas where technology can drive impact is infrastructure. Countries like Germany and China have built efficient, sustainable urban systems powered by renewable energy. Smart grids, solar-powered street lighting, and energy-efficient transportation networks have not only improved connectivity but also reduced costs. Nigeria can replicate this by investing in decentralized solar energy solutions to power rural communities, reducing reliance on a single grid. Imagine a Nigeria where every major road is well-lit by solar-powered LED lights, where government buildings and industrial parks run on hybrid renewable energy sources—such a reality is within reach with the right policies and investments.

Through the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, a clear roadmap to achieving a sustainable future in the Country has been demonstrated. Practical steps have been taken to implement this agenda like the development of the first Gazetted National Energy Policy and its implementation plan. These strategic initiatives have shown a clear roadmap for sustainable energy solutions. Other Government initiatives include localisation and domestication of renewable energy solutions in the country, setting up industries and factories for the local production of renewable energy products like Solar PV panels and Batteries leveraging on the country’s rich natural resources and raw materials. The ECN is currently developing a large scale Solar PV module assembling plants, a modular Green Hydrogen plant and a Bio-Methanol plant. These projects will provide more access to energy, reduce the cost of energy and guarantee energy security in the country.

Economically, renewable energy is a game-changer. This, I have always maintained. Nations like Sweden and Denmark have successfully built thriving green economies by integrating solar, wind, and hydro energy into their industrial frameworks. Nigeria, blessed with abundant sunlight and vast water bodies, has already began to tap into these resources to create jobs, reduce energy costs, and attract foreign direct investment. Take Morocco’s Noor Ouarzazate Solar Complex, the world’s largest concentrated solar farm—it has not only provided energy security but has also created thousands of jobs. Nigeria’s potential to replicate such feats is immense, specifically in the northern region, where solar intensity is at its peak.

Security and job creation are two intertwined issues that technology can help resolve. In countries like Israel and the United States, renewable energy is made to power the security systems, from AI-driven surveillance to drone technology for border control. Nigeria can adopt similar measures by integrating solar-powered security cameras in high-risk zones and using tech-driven agricultural solutions to create jobs and reduce youth unemployment which is one of the major causes of insecurity. With over 60% of Nigeria’s population being under 25, training programs in sustainable solutions like solar panel technology, smart agriculture, and energy management can create employment opportunities, while simultaneously addressing our power deficit issues.

Education and general development also stand to benefit from this technology-driven approach. Countries like Finland and South Korea have transformed their education systems through digital tools and smart classrooms powered by renewable energy. Imagine a Nigeria where every rural school has uninterrupted electricity from solar microgrids, where students in remote areas have access to digital learning platforms. This is achievable with strategic partnerships between the government, private sector, and international organizations.

As the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), one of the major player in the energy sector, I am pleased with the innovative policies, strategic partnerships and intentional financing made available by Mr President, H. E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, under the auspices of the “Renewed Hope Administration.” The inclination and efforts of Mr. President through the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, where the Honourable Minister, Chief Uche Nnaji, holds sway, signal hope, and stand commendable.

At this juncture, it is pertinent to announce a very critical project initiated by the Federal Government towards improving the energy supply and demand gaps through renewable energy sources. The Federal Government has recently appropriated funds for ‘Solarisation of critical infrastructure across the country’ to the ECN. This project will be fully implemented by the ECN. Critical Infrastructures like Universities, teaching hospitals and other public institutions will benefit from this solarisation initiative. Specially, upto to 2 megawatt solar hybrid mini grid of power will be installed in every federal government institutions and hospitals across the country (36 states including FCT). The Energy Commission of Nigeria has began energy audit across the universities and medical institutions to determine the energy needs of the institutions. This project is aimed to be completed before the year ends.

By investing in renewable energy technologies and smart technology solutions, Nigeria can accelerate its development trajectory, ensuring a future that is not just sustainable but also prosperous for generations to come.

In a powerful display of interfaith unity, Pastor (Dr.) Yohanna Buru, a prominent Christian leader from Kaduna, delivered a peace message amids thousands of Muslims gathered at the Eid-praying ground in Murtala Mohammed Square on Sunday, March 30th, 2025.

This event, which aimed to foster unity, love, and religious tolerance, was a significant step in promoting peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.

Pastor Buru, the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, led a group of Christians to stand alongside the Muslim community in their prayers, reinforcing the importance of Christian-Muslim cooperation.

This marked the fourth consecutive year Pastor Buru and his team have participated in the Eid celebrations at the central mosque, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to peace and harmony.

Notable figures, including former Governor Alhaji (Dr.) Ramalan Yero, respected Islamic scholars, and traditional leaders, women and children also attended the event, which highlighted the significance of interfaith dialogue.

Pastor Buru, known for his dedication to peace, emphasized that events like these offer an opportunity for mutual understanding.

“We must remember that we are one family under God, worshipping the same God. Both the Qur’an and the Bible are holy books sent from one God,” he said, urging Nigerians to put aside differences and work together for a united, prosperous nation.

He also expressed his congratulations to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and other prominent Islamic leaders, while noting that Muslims regularly join Christians during Christmas celebrations, further solidifying ties between the two communities.

In his message after the prayers, Pastor Buru called for peace, unity, and love to guide the nation’s future. “Nigeria can achieve its full potential when we work together and embrace peace,” he said, wishing Muslims a joyful Eid and praying for continued peace and prosperity.

Other Christian leaders, including Reverend George John and Elder Sanda, were present, stressing the importance of promoting peace and understanding.

The Chief Imam of the central mosque,Sheikh Habib Umar Mahmood, expressed gratitude for Pastor Buru’s ongoing support and for the opportunity to deliver his peace message at the Eid praying ground.
