Breakthrough as Kaduna NUJ commences training of 500 Journalists on Security Reportage

The Leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Kaduna State Council has sustain the training of Journalists on Security Reportage.

The Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists Kaduna State Council Hajiya Asma’u Yawo Halilu revealed that the training was part of her Campaign promises to ensure professionalism

Earlier, the Council had trained 45 members on Thursday last week and another 45 this week and 410 more will be trained in batches.

Media practicioners were urged to be mindful in reporting issues associated with security to avoid unnecessary chaos in the society.

A security expert Colonel Ahmed Abdulkadir Zubairu (rtd) who was the resource person for the one day workshop for journalists on media coverage of insecurity explained that as strategic partners in the implementation strategy of every policy, media practicioners should always use their various platforms in managing ambiguities and uncertainties especially as it affects security matters.

He noted that the society was vulnerable to internal and external factors, hence journalists should devise means to simplify complex issues to avoid overheating the polity.

The security expert also reminded journalists on the need to uphold the basic principles of fairness, truth and objectivity, and avoid infusing sentiments in their reportage.

Colonel Abdulkadir Ahmed (rtd) stressed the need for journalists to be embedded in the activities of modern day warfare, after acquiring the basic training so as to serve as a guide in carrying out their assignment.

Earlier in her welcome address, State Council Chairman of the NUJ, Asma’u Halilu explained that the workshop was organised to enhance the professionalism of members especially as it affects reporting security matters.

She implored participants to apply the lessons learnt towards improving their skills in their reportage.

Some of the journalists interviewed described the workshop as an eye opener that would go a long way in shaping their skills and competencies in reportage.
