An outbreak of Lassa Fever has been reported in Ejah Community of Osupong Ward 1, Obubra local government area of Cross River State.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Egbe Ayuk, made this known Wednesday in a statement entitled, “notification of Lassa Outbreak in Obubra Cross River State,” made available to journalists in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
Dr. Ayuk said the reported case was identified following the result of an investigation conducted on a deceased case of the community at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
“Investigation has been concluded today, and details of the deceased case – a resident of Obubra got from Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, Ebony State, has been confirmed positive for Lassa.
“We have consequently activated the CRS Emergency Operation Center,” the Health Commissioner stated.
He also said the State Rapid Response Team would be going to Obubra tomorrow (Thursday) to join the Local Government Area Team to ensure: contact Tracing and line listing, decontamination of affected premises, awareness creation and risk communication.
Dr. Ayuk further hinted that the team would ensure the mobilization of Lassa fever commodities, consumables and personal protective equipment to General Hospital Obubra and other locations.
