Kaduna University becoming a Research Centre- KASU
Kaduna State University (KASU) is on the verge of becoming a research centre for Geohazard and Earthquake monitoring as the National Space Research and Development Agency (NARSDA) sets up a Seismological Station.
In a statement signed by the University PRO Adamu Nuhu Bargo said, “in line with the current strategic plan for repositioning the University as a world-class centre for teaching, research and community service, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa has welcomed the setting up of a Seismic station within the University as initiated by the Centre of Geodesy and Geodynamics (CGG) Toro, Bauchi State.”
It said the Centre is a parastatal under the National Space Research and Development Agency (NARSDA) Abuja.
“The Staff of CGG Toro, led by the Head of the Seismological Unit, Mr. Abba and Dr Kadiri Afegbua visited the VC today in the company of the KASU Geophysical Research Team led by Professor M.D. Dogara, Associate Professor Cyril G. Afuwai and the HOD of the Physics Department Dr. Shuaibu Alhassan for a courtesy visit before the commencement of the Project.”
Bargo revealed that the major benefits of the project to KASU include but are not limited to:
i. Collaborative Access to Seismic Data for Geophysical Research.
ii. Training and retraining of staff and students on seismic data processing and interpretation.
iii. Access to scientific visits to the centre by KASU staff and students for collaborative research and knowledge sharing.
