Idi Hong: The Lion and the civilian general who roared for Fintiri’s Victory

By Tom Garba

He is young and agile, brave and forthright, he is intelligent and versatile. He can be seen as a regimented civilian General who will live to fight in keeping the tenets of Democracy for the common good of all.

I’m talking about a Medical Doctor, a former Minister of State for Health and foreign affairs, a businessman, and a philanthropist who is a household name in Adamawa and known with much passion to serve humanity.

This man was born on 31st December 1967 in Hong Local Government area of Adamawa State. Is no other person, is Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong, the Man that help in consolidating Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s victory of the Adamawa state PDP.

Idi building to general elections has played sensitive roles to ensure his party, PDP has a gliding victory. He went the rock ways, endures the pains of nooks and crannies campaign of Adamawa towns and villages, he fought for the liberation of people as a loyal army general who had sworn to die defending his nation. Yes, that was Idi’s mission, to make sure Fintiri returned elected.

The war-fighting Spirit of Idi during the campaigns was of a warrior who was sure and ready to conquer his enemy under whatever guise. The nostalgic general sees only victory at the end of the battle. He fights for justice under the doctrines and dogma of Democracy tenets.

Idi’s disposition to Justice was rekindled when a hullabaloo that seems to be a Nollywood firm’s script acting by the Resident Election Commissioner (REC), Barr Yunusa Hudu Ari who at a collation center was playing a hanky panky game of delay suspicious to change the Adamawa election results.

There at the collation center, Idi showed up and begin to fight for Justice, his belief in the Adamawa Governorship election is to give to Ceasar what belongs to Ceasar.

This valiant warrior fought for Fintiri, fought for Adamawa, and fought for humanity when the election was declared inconclusive. It was a war to finish for him to defend the People’s mandate. The dramatic journey with a seeming description of a civilian coup De tat on Democracy was staged when Hudu with no constitutional back up declared Sen Aishatu Binani of APC as the winner of the governorship election threw the entire nation into a state of confusion. Adamawa few weeks ago was more of having a grave yard peace with everyone seems frustrated on what begile the state.

Idi was nicked name the commander-general defending the election process of the people roared, yelled, and stood his ground against the open show of mandate assassination in a broad daylight by the APC guber candidate.

The attitude exhibited by Idi Hong has distinguished him to be promising Man that Nigeria needs not only Adamawa state. He gave the right fight and struggled through the wild and vile interest of APC’s governorship candidate.

Today Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri returned elected and collected his certificate returning him a Governor of Adamawa state for the second term in a keenly contest even when it was so glaring they are robbing him out of the mandate but people like Idi Hong, Felix Tangwami, and Hon Barguma Hassan Mamman all contributed in one way or the other to ensure Justice is done.

Idi for me is another brilliant civilian general that Adamawa is proud to have to change the negative narratives that nothing good will ever come to the state. As a former Minister, a Business tycoon who is helping in managing the BUA company, a business conglomerate producing cement and allied products in the country. He is now a shining star with a radiant glory.

Idi is a gift, Idi is the ideal leader that the people of Adamawa should encourage to take leading roles in government affairs at both federal and state levels. He has all it takes, he has all the experience, is Young and strong, able and ready to take leadership roles for the state.

Idi defended, he protected and delivered what lawfully and legally belongs to the people of Adamawa. What a warrior! He and many others have paid proper dues not because they are PDP’s but because they are out for Justice, and for Democracy to stand tall in Nigeria.

Fintiri is indeed lucky to have this Man around, having him be part of a movement is a jewel to any leader that sees that virtue in him. Straight he is like a sword. Intelligent he is like the ancient men, he has wisdom like the people of old. Idi is a master piece creature created by eternal creator for solving problems of Mankind

Sir, keep living and fighting for the common man. Keep roaring for democracy, and keep the hope of people in Adamawa alive by singing the song of victors.

Idi thank you for being a promising leader and a civilian general who can lay down his life for the whole people of the state. I see you as an Eagle who has the vision of serving Adamawa State at a much higher capacity in a near future.

Patients hail Nigerian Doctors as Eye Centre begins Corneal Refractive Surgery

Doctors from National Eye Centre, Kaduna, have been commended for successfully launching Corneal Refractive Surgery (CRS) services using the Laser Machine, the first of its kind in a Nigerian Public Hospital.

Speaking with newsmen yesterday during the routine one month medical follow up on all 5 pioneer patients treated via Corneal Refractive Surgery, Aisha Suleiman Abdullahi, a civil servant who had Refractive Error and had used glasses for three (3)years said, “I was scared at the beginning because I didn’t believe our own Nigerian Doctors can handle it, I heard of it in India not Nigeria so I was scared, my plan was to travel to India some years ago, and when I was informed of this service which I intended travelling to India for, I stayed back. It saved me alot of millions. There is nothing like one seeing with your naked eyes, I encourage others to come to Eye Centre because they have enough (qualified) doctors and they are great.”

In a related development, Barakah Yusuf, a 21 years old student in Zaria revealed that she had been using glasses for seven years and couldn’t afford to travel abroad for this service. She added, ” I have never traveled out of Nigeria before, but after this Corneal Refractive Surgery in January 2023, I (now) do every thing without glasses. I will always sell this Refractive Surgery idea to as many people as possible because it is worth doing.”

Other patients, Aisha Nuhu and Zuwaira Jafar who spoke differently confirmed that the Refractive Surgery may cost over 3 to 4million naira or even more in India and Saudi Arabia. They commended the doctors in Nigeria, particularly the National Eye Centre doctors, for their level of professionalism and competence.

Speaking on the essence for the Corneal Refractive Surgery Services at National Eye Centre Kaduna, the Chief Medical Director, Doctor Mahmoud Babanini Alhassan, said, “we want to bridge the technology gap between Nigeria and Europe and reduce medical tourism. We promise to give evidence based care to our patients”

On the level of training and retraining of the surgeons and supportive staff, Dr Alhassan maintained that “am very confident because my doctors are well trained, infact 3 of my surgeons that were on the team for the Corneal Refractive Surgery of the first 5 patients were trained abroad in big hospitals and establishments in India. We will continue to train and retrain Doctors and supporting staff to adapt to new technologies and skills for efficiency.”

Earlier, Dr. Peter Jiya, Consultant Opthalmologist in the National Eye Centre, explained that Corneal Refractive Surgery is not a new procedure; over 9.5 million in USA and more than 40 million worldwide have had Corneal Refractive Surgery (CRS) in the last 25 – 30 years. He further said CRS is a laser procedure by which the cornea ( the transparent part of the eye) is re-shaped (sculpted), so as to finally allow the images of objects of regard to be focused clearly on the retina. Refractive Errors are common clinical conditions where people are unable to see very well because of the eye’s inability to focus images on the retina. The acceptable standard remedy for Refractive error, after diagnosis and clinical investigation (Refraction) is the use of prescribed corrective lenses ( glasses) given for better sight.

According Dr Jiya, “this surgery is the first of its kind in Nigerian Public hospitals. We in the National Eye Centre, Kaduna, collaborated with foreign corneal Refractive Surgeon from Algeria. Several patients were screened and five (5) were found fit and subsequently prepared for the procedure. The patients that had the laser surgery presented with different degree of error ranging from minus two to minus nine Diopters. This morning, we had our one- month post-operative follow up of all the patients and their visual acuity (measurement of seeing ability) is 6-6 to 6-5 which is very good. The laser machine we have can perform as much as 15 to 20 per day.

Moallayidi: Interim Govt is an idea dead on arrival — Group warns politicians

Arewa New Agenda (ANA) has called on politicians to seek redress in court if they were not satisfied with the outcome of the just concluded 2023 presidential election instead of raising tensions of coup and interim government.

The Convener of ANA, Senator Ahmad Abubakar MoAllahyidi while addressing journalists on Wednesday, state warns against the plot to install interim government in the country.

He said that the last Presidential election was peaceful and a candidate was declared winner, hence there is no need for the call to install interim government.

“ANA is concerned that at this critical period the nation needs healing, more social cohesion, social re-engineering and reconciliation to get back to normality, some elements are allegedly setting up roadblocks to unity and peaceful coexistence.

“We may recall that on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, the Directorate of State Security Service (DSS) issued a statement that it had identified “some key players” involved in an alleged plot for an interim government in Nigeria.

“According to the security agency, the
alleged plotters plan to sponsor series of “violent” protests and obtain “frivolous court injunctions” to truncate the swearing in of new governments at federal and state levels.
“We may recall that Nigeria in 1993 was subjected to an interim national government that lasted for a couple of months of high tension and uncertainty. Thirty years on, talks of interim government are raring their head again for no good reasons.

For no good reasons because happenings and the situation of 1993 that led to the interim government then are completely different from the nation’s situation and happenings in 2023″, he said.

He further stated that the election in 1993 was declared inconclusive by the electoral body that conducted the election.

While the 2023 presidential election has produced a winner of the election and INEC the electoral body that conducted the election has declared and even issued a certificate of return to the declared winner, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Where then is the place for an interim government? The only option left for anyone aggrieved by the result of the election is to go to court – a remedy aggrieved parties are already resorting to. Where then does interim government comes in?

“The 2023 presidential election was not characterized by violence and malpractices that would warrant calling for coup or interim government”, he added.

“Any flaw of the election is one capable of legal redress in our courts and this is where aggrieved parties should channel their grievances instead of raising national tensions with talks of coup and interim government.

“This is one election since 2011, in which there was least violence, killing and arson. The outcome of the election is largely a reflection of the popular will of Nigerian electorates”, MoAllahyidi said.

He said that ANA is constrained to say that some people are bad losers. He said for such people, wherever they lost, the election was rigged, but wherever they won, it was free and fair.

“It is important we remind Nigerians that only in one occasion has a Nigerian presidential election escaped being challenged in the courts. Ironically, that was the 2015 election that delivered Nigeria’s only opposition victory and change of power between political parties at the federal level.
“Steep in the culture of not accepting defeat honorably, Nigerian politicians challenging the result of the 25 February 2023 presidential and national assembly polls the way they are currently doing is the common practice and not the exception.

“The Nigerian Constitution envisages disputes over election results and made robust and adequate provisions for aggrieved parties to ventilate their grievances over election outcomes in court.

“Aggrieved politicians who have taken their grievances to court or are preparing to do so are following the laudable constitutional path of ventilating grievances.

“Those seeking to disrupt the constitutional order and transition schedule as alleged by the DSS are enemies of public good toeing the path of conflict.

“We call on them to retrace their steps and embrace the constitutional and lawful means of addressing election disputes”, he added

Fintiri is a product of an inconclusive election, God’s willing he will win again-PDP Chieftain

Fintiri is a product of an inconclusive election, God’s willing he will win again-PDP Chieftain

…warn against name-dropping by some APC members

By Tom Garba, Yola

A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Hassan Mamman Barguma said the inconclusive election declared by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in the aftermath of the 18th March Governorship and Housing of Assembly election in Adamawa is not a new thing and the Party is never jittery.

According to him, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is a product of an inconclusive Election that has been coming out clean and neat because it is something done within the purview of the law.

Hassan a former Majority Leader in the Adamawa House of Assembly said the electoral act has laid down clear rules on how an election can be conducted, can be made inconclusive and a rerun be scheduled to follow suit.

He worried that an inconclusive election is not the first time in Adamawa and asked why is it that desperate people are weaponizing the whole exercise.

According to him their desperation going around peddling the impossible agenda of declaring the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani as the winner is a war drumming statement that deserves a gunshot warning of “it can never be possible”.

He advised that Binani foot soldiers should go back to their drawing board by campaigning to the people of 69 polling units if they can give her a wholesome 37,000 votes to beat Fintiri not to be charade on baseless issues.

The immediate past Member who represented Hong constituency in the state Assembly said the PDP has started talking, consulting, and campaigning massively to the people of the 69 units where a rerun was said is going to be carried out by INEC.

Hassan in an interview with this medium said the inconclusive declared by the INEC official is a matter of law and order and must be strictly followed according to the provision of the law for peace to reign.

He recalled how Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan respect the Law as an incumbent President abdicated his seat for a new government to come in.

He said peaceful handover to Fintiri on the same rerun election pattern as an incumbent Governor because he knew the power of Law and order.

“I’m advising Binani to concede for defeat and accept it in good fate because the rerun will never favor her but rather make us pass through undue pains and hardship over her desperation,” Barguma said

Hassan was also warned against name-dropping by some of Binani’s cronies and frowned at the high level of her desperation to become the next Governor of Adamawa.

“Binani’s cronies should not be intimidated by the people of Adamawa State. Dropping names and name-calling so many prominent people is not good for the polity.

“We want peace in Adamawa and politics should not be do-or-die affairs. Because of her interest, there is no reason that hell should let loose and the state is plunder into political crisis over one person’s desire of becoming a Governor.” He said

He alleged that Binani has been meeting and talking with the INEC officials to help her that in a way portrays her as a bad politician and that is not the way to do politics.

He however praised her for giving a good fight and must be commended to have wielded the power to alter and think with the whole process.

Hassan said the effort she made is a good one as an opposition candidate and a woman for that matter

The governor at a Special Easter thanksgiving Service at Anglican Church Mayo Dasa Jalingo, stated that as a leader who had led the state for almost eight years, it was likely that he might had offended so many people either knowingly or unknowingly in the course of discharging his duty as Executive Governor and so it was Biblical for him to openly appologise and seek for forgiveness from such people.

In his words, “Biblically, we are taught to forgive those who offend us. In this case, I am asking for those I have offended to forgive me. I did this in the house of God and if they did not forgive me, it is between them and God. For me, I have done my own duty by asking for forgiveness from every one I have offended”.

Governor Ishaku appreciated God for sustaining him with courage and wisdom to serve the people of the State effectively despite all the challenges that confronted his administration.

He lauded the people of Taraba State for their relentless support to the administration and urged them to extend the love they had shown him to the governor elect, Dantala Kefas Agbu to enable him to also succeed.

Easter: Bishop Ndagoso task Nigeria’s Judiciary on 2023 elections tribunal, slams DSS on Interim Govt.

Following mixed reactions that trailed the 2023 General elections, the Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna, Arch Bishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso has  called on Nigerian Judiciary to fear God and do the right thing.
Speaking on Saturday in his Easter Message, the Arch Bshop maintained that “Democracy is a process, the judiciary is part of the Democratic process. The Judiciary should play their roles and let it be clear, people are already clamoring for live broadcast of tribunal cases. Its all about transparency we can not build on false reconciliation. Also, we cannot lose hope, when you lose hope you are simply telling God he is  incapable of handling your matter.
He said “true reconciliation comes with Justice, the  Sacrement of the beginning is to accept your sins before God and open up then you are healed. I would like to commend the purported losers  for keeping calm and going to court, The issue of interim Government, is baseless, interim govt for what? if you talk about unity or inclusive Government I will agree with you, what we need is an inclusive Government. The principle of winner takes all in our democracy should be discouraged for the sake of unity, the appointments should reflect our differences. It is unfortunate, that DSS are telling us that people are plotting interim Government. We should be hearing that these are the people planning interim government and have been arrested. They are  under interrogation or in detention.”
Earlier the Arch Bishop said “there is no doubt that many Nigerians have lost not only hope but a sense of purpose and direction because of the situation in the country. The assurance is that all is not lost. The risen Lord is able to pull us back from the edge of the precipice that we now stand on and give us a new sense of purpose and direction. As Jesus called Lazarus out from the tomb of darkness into the freedom of light so does he invite us from our dark tomb of political tension, bitterness, anger, hatred, ethnic and religious divisions and separation from one another to a renewed life of grace.”
“The Easter message challenges us to look beyond our present challenges and difficulties and remind us that God always has a way of leading his people through difficult and trying moments. Consequently, the transformation of Jesus from death to life through the resurrection should encourage us in our effort to overcome our present difficulties and challenges. The Resurrection of Jesus assures us that no situation in human life is beyond redemption; that even the worst of situations of suffering and near despair being experienced in our country today are redeemable.
God used angels to rollaway the stone that covered the entrance to Jesus’ tomb. He will in his own good time use his angels to rollaway the seeming insurmountable obstacles that face our country today especially the nagging issues of insecurity, fuel scarcity, cash crunch, high cost of living and unemployment especially among the youth. It is our sincere hope and prayer that the emerging leaders from the last general elections soon to be sworn in will be the angels that God will use to roll away the stone blocking the progress and development of our country.” Ndagoso maintained.
