ASUU Strike : NANS Leadership Calls Off Plan To Blockade Abuja – Kaduna Highway

Leadership of Nigerian Students have called off a plan to obstruct vehicular traffic into Kaduna from Abuja to force Federal Government to end the ongoing strike embarked upon by Academic Staff Union of Universities , ( ASUU ) about eight months .

In a Press briefing , Chairman Task Force on End ASUU strike , Comrade Dominic Philip said the decision not to go ahead with the planned blockade of Abuja – Kaduna Highway was arrived at after a series of meetings with security agencies and other important Stakeholders within the State and beyond .

Philip further noted that security concerns were raised at the meetings with heads of DSS , the Police and Civil Defence who cited volatile and peculiar nature of Kaduna State where hoodlums could easily hijack peaceful protests to maim members of the public and loot property .

” I must point out that our earlier decision was sheathed in the interest of the state , country and our people who may be victims of unforseen circumstances that may arise in event our good intention was abused by unscrupulous elements who do not mean well for our dear nation .

” We are however keeping our fingers crossed awaiting further instructions from our National leadership on next line of action .

” It is a sad and unbearable development having lost a whole academic session at home due to unchalant attitude of the Federal Government to reach an amicable conclusion with ASUU to end its strike .

” Our Politicians , policy makers and of course the elite have their children schooling in expensive institutions abroad .

” We’re therefore not surprised about their indifference to pay due attention to education of the masses who form the bulk of the Country’s population .

” The die is cast as we face another election cycle next year which will afford us a vantage opportunity to discard this crop of politicians who do not mean well for us , ” he lamented .

Court affirms  Kefas as Taraba PDP Governorship candidate

The Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo and presided over by Justice Simon Amobeda on Monday affirmed Lt. Col. Agbu Kefas (retd) as the Taraba governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election.

Delivering judgement in a case filed by Prof. Jerome Nyameh and Dr  Hilkiah Joda-Mafinda challenging his emergence as the governorship candidate of the party in a primary election held on May 17, 2022, the court held that the applicants could not prove their case against the defendant.

The plaintiffs who contested the primary election but lost to Agbu Kefas had approached the court challenging his emergence as the candidate.

They  accuse him of violating Part Vii, Article 1 of the Electoral Guidelines for the Primary Elections of the PDP, having failed to resign as the state party chairman.

The plaintiffs argued that Agbu Kefas only resigned six days before the election  and many days after the screening of aspirants on April 28, when he was still the State Chairman of the PDP.

Earlier, the Court had dismissed the application of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Prof. Joseph  Kunini seeking to be joined in the suit as an interested party.

The Court held that the Speaker was caught by section 285 of the Electoral Act which provided 14 days for an aggrieved party to file an action after the primary election.

“Having failed to do so, this application is statute barred,”he noted.

Gorobi, Adamawa PDP HoR member says only Atiku can save Nigeria

….says his experience is what will liberate Nigerians

By Tom Garba,Yola

The member representing Guyuk/Shelleng federal constituency in the House of Representatives (HoR), Gibeon Goroki said his loyalty to Atiku Abubakar is none negotiable.

He said his belief in Atiku is because of his love and passion to save the country from total collapse.

According to him the near-total collapse of the country is only Atiku Abubakar has the requisite experience to salvage Nigeria from a comatose stage than any presidential aspirant in whichever political party.

Gibeon described Atiku, the presidential candidate of the people’s Democratic Party (PDP) as a unicorn whose winning chances are very high because is the masses’ candidate.

Goroki who is a strong supporter of Atiku has started campaigning for Atiku Abubakar in his constituency a big billboard in it the inscription there is written: “2023 Atiku only.”

He said the message on the billboard in his Guyuk hometown is a message to mean that the coming 2023 in Adamawa and elsewhere is duty bound to only support Atiku Abubakar, his political God Father.

The former Guyuk Local Government council Chairman while responding to questions with this medium said it’s unfortunate the All Progressives Congress, APC, the ruling party has performed below expectation to get the overwhelming support to win the 2023 presidential election.

According to him, it’s glaring that President Muhammadu Buhari’s policies and Modi’s Operandi is anti-people, scheming out things for himself and the cronies to benefit.

He recalled how insecurity has thrown out the country in a bad light in the eyes of the international community and failed promises building to the 2015 election are working against the ruling party.

Gibeon gave a current example of the bickering between ASUU and the Federal Government that cannot resolve over seven months of lingering strikes.

This unresolved strike by the ASUU Goroki said is inhumane and the lack of good standard of living as a result of the battered economy is something heavy on Nigerians who are unprepared, and untimely to face.

“Tell me with this excruciating pain Nigerians are going through how can this party win the election? The people of Nigeria are crying left, right and Centre. Anywhere you go it’s one complaint of the other that the harsh economy is biting hard on Nigerians.” Goroki said

Goroki while reiterating his loyalty to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is one of the reasons finds himself as a scapegoat, the sacrificial lamb meant to be slaughtered for the interest of many politicians in Adamawa state.

Despite his political heavy battles, is still a strong supporter of the former vice president and he can not change for a dime his love for Atiku and is seriously working hard to have him return as the President of Nigeria in 2023.

“I won’t negotiate my loyalty to former President Atiku with nothing else, I remain his, and I will ever be part of him because he is my political God Father.

“I have started a wide consultation in and outside Adamawa on the need for Atiku to take over the presidency come what may.” He added

Gebion who is a die-hard PDP Lawmaker said the party is regaining strength out of the in-house feuds of the party’s sons and daughters and is to the advantage of Atiku Abubakar

SDP Commissions National Secretariat In Abuja, vows to tackle rigging

Social Democratic Party, SDP, presidential candidate, Prince Adewole ADEBAYO, Elder statesmen, Chief Olu Falae, and a former liaison officer to President Shehu Shagari, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has witnessed the official commissioning of the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja where they separately vowed that the general elections in 2023 will not be rigged and urged politicians to mobilize voters and run for office.

Particularly, Prince Adewole Adebayo stressed that Nigerians needed not to cry any longer since the SDP has provided the credible alternative that the people have been yearning for to change their situation for the best.

On his part, 84years old Falae, said in a statement following the commissioning of the new headquarters that some believed it would be impossible to revive the SDP, but they were able to do so without resorting to litigation.

“The party may not have a governor today, may not be in Aso rock, but the SDP is getting there, ” Falae said, adding that Nigeria is in crisis as a result of failed leadership.

“Nigeria today is in crisis. You can’t move without being kidnapped. I have been kidnapped for four days on my worm.

“I traveled to Lagos on foot as a young man without being kidnapped. But at 77, I was kidnapped.

“Controlling government is not a controlling party. Ask the parties, what is their philosophy, they don’t know it, they don’t have a plan, and it’s why things are getting worse.

“SDP is the only party that can restructure and revive Nigeria. More people will leave the country if things are not put right. More doctors are leaving.

“Politics is about numbers. Bring people to the party and surprise the so-called party because no one will rig the election.

“We have a good chance to deliver Nigeria and help Nigeria from disaster. You have the chance to deliver Nigeria, ” Falae said.

Also speaking, elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, said the SDP should move to the grassroots and campaign adding that with the new electoral act 2022, no one will be able to rig the election.

Yakasai who was represented by the SDP gubernatorial candidate in Adamawa State, Dr .U.mar Ardo, said the electoral act made it impossible for anyone to rig the election.

“2022 electoral act is an opportunity for the SDP to make a mark as room for rigging and vote allocation have been tackled.

“What is put in the ballot box is what will be out and announced to the public. Don’t worry about not having governors. Go and talk to the grassroots because they are tired of APC and PDP, they are after alternatives, ” Yakasai said.

The presidential candidate of the SDP, Prince Adewole Adebayo said what SDP is bringing to Nigerians is just the white horse signifies victory and prosperity.

“Because poverty is ungodly and unnatural. If we don’t fight poverty, it will produce children which is insecurity.

“We are back, 30 years later, to open this office for truth, justice, and farewell to poverty.

“If you want to know if I will be a better president, I’ve chosen SDP as a platform and not as a money bag for political parties. I chose a youth banker, Yusuf Salisu Buhari as my running mate.

“SDP has the young person as the national chairman and I am telling Nigerians that the opportunity you have been looking for is here.

“We will go to all the 774 LGAs and wards and deliver victory to Nigerians where Nigerians will have sound medical care, security, and education, ” Adewole added.

The national chairman of the party, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam while delivering the goodwill message of Nigeria’s former President Ibrahim Babangida, urged the party to go and conquer since it was established during his administration.

“I am happy because one of the parties established during my administration is still alive. Keep hope alive, you can navigate through and bring change, ” IBB said.

Taraba state dead under Gov Ishaku-APC

Taraba state dead under Gov Ishaku.-APC

Taraba state chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday alleged that the state had since moved from an intensive care unit to the mortuary under the leadership of Gov Darius Ishaku.

Hon. Aaron Artimas, the state party publicity Secretary made the allegations while responding to the state government’s allegation that federal government projects allocated to some senatorial zones in Taraba were either poorly or not implemented as against the claims of the implementing agencies.

It will be recalled that Taraba state government through the state Commissioner for Budget and economic planning, Hon. Solomon Elisha at a press conference recently in Jalingo alleged that federal government projects allocated to some senatorial zones of the state since 2020, were either poorly or not implemented at all.

But the APC while responding to the allegation said, the state government was only trying to divert the attention of the people from the bad situation Tarabans have found themselves into, after seven and half years of abysmal performance.

According the APC, the state government was desperately searching for scape goats to take the burden of its massive failure and the consequent spread of despondence and hopelessness across the state.

Aaron said the idea was map to attack the personality of the Senator representing Taraba South, Dr Emmanuel Bwacha with the hope of impinging his growing image, as it was not unexpected, given the fact that the Senator is considered as the most likely person to succeed the ‘dying’ regime.

“Some people will have to be targeted. Unfortunately, the state government has picked the wrong person to carry its odoriferous garbage. It is therefore important to put the issues straight so as not to mislead right thinking people with moonlight tales from a discredited and desperate regime.

“It is a well-known fact that traditional institutions are constitutionally founded by Local Government Councils. Despite dubious re-organisation and creation of more Chiefdoms in the state. Taraba state government had continued to discredit and belittle the traditional institutions in the state by completely failing to fund their activities, not only had the government neglected to provide vehicles for the traditional rulers but also refused to build befitting palaces for them.

“The highest victim of this disrespect is in fact, the paramount ruler of the Kwararafa, the Aku-Uka who had consistently failed to obtain the support of the State Government.

“In response to this deplorable situation, Senator Bwacha had on many occasions tried to personally intervene by rehabilitating the palace but on all occasions, the State Government refused to allow him to do so. Out of this frustration the Senator went further to include the renovations of the palaces of the Aku Uka and the Gara of Donga in his constituency projects in order to bring succor to the respected rulers but the State Government vehemently frustrated and scuttled the efforts, and in fact physically drove away the contractors from site.

“The Federal Polytechnic Bali, through which the funds were appropriated was left with no option than to vire the funds to other projects. Later, the government challenged indigenes of those traditional councils to renovate their own Palaces, following which Senator Bwacha took up the personal task of renovating the Palace of Gara of Donga.

“It is a matter of shame to discuss these issues on the public domain because doing so would only expose the traditional stool of the Aku-Uka, to ridicule, odium and indignation. Certainly, the Aku-Uka as the Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs did not deserve this disrespectful treatment and no previous regime had demonstrated such impudence to the office or personality of the revered ruler.

“As a matter of fact, many people are suggesting that the Aku-Uka was frustrated and pushed to premature death by the consistent lack of respect and support for his domain. His successor is not faring better in this deliberate effort to impinge the status of the institution.

2023: SDP Presidential Candidate, Prince Adebayo Sue’s for Christian  Activeness in Politics

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo has urged the Christian body to use participation in politics to raise men who will represent the church in governance, by doing things the right way.

Adebayo made this known on Tuesday, 13th September 2022 at St. Matthias House Abuja, while giving his speech as a guest speaker at the opening ceremony of The Church of Nigeria Standing Committee, in view of the preparation of the next general election in 2023.
He noted that if the church is well represented in institutions in the country, the value of the church will be reflected and things will be done rightly.

“Anywhere, we find representatives of the Church, whether they’re serving on INEC, the value of the Church should be reflected. At the end of the day, when the devil is tempting them with twenty thousand Naira, ten thousand Naira, they are already trained to wrestle with the devil. The value of the Church will be reflected and if the value of the Church is reflected, people even those who are not of our faith because of the tribulation they are going through, they would say that someone from our side should take the saddle.”

He further advised that it is important that Christians should participate in politics because Christ instructed that what belongs to Caesar should be given to Caesar.

He said, “The election is a circular exercise for the country but for us in the church, everything we do is spiritual because just like Jacob, he wrestled with the angel of God before he could find his destiny. For this generation, we have been equipped with the new testament to wrestle with the devil in everything that we do”.

“The Church has laid a good foundation in participating in institutions; that’s why the church founded schools so that Christian values will be expressed to youth through the school system.”

Prince Adewole Adebayo was invited by The Most Rev’d Henry C. Ndubuka, MA, BD, MA (Ed) Arc Bishop and Metropolitan Primate of all Nigeria to speak as a guest speaker at the opening ceremony of Church of Nigeria Standing Committee in view of the preparation of the next general election in 2023.

Members of Prince Adebayo’s entourage included Sen. Ugochukwu Uba, Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, Chief Godwin Osigbeme, Pastor Ade Alabi and Comrade Olarewaju Osho.

Mr Peter Obi, presidential candidate of Labour party was also present at the ceremony.

Prince Adebayo urged Christians to be guided by the church to play a redoubled role in the electioneering process so that, it is no longer seen as something which is unseemly, unholy, unclean but rather depends on the value they bring into it.
