Buhari’s Govt Is A “Jungle Of Rival Gangs After Own Money” — SDP Presidential Candidate

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in next year’s election, Prince Adewole Adebayo has lampooned the seven and the half years the Muhammadu Buhari administration by saying that President Buhari “runs a jungle of rival gangs after own money”.

The SDP Standard said in a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle that President Buhari is standing akimbo and watching his presidency become a stage for pediatric hirelings and mischievous crowd renters who have no right to be in public office.

The Lawyer turned politician also described as “dangerous and ridiculous” the part being played by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele in the country’s political process.

He said, “I have said it not with joy but most regretfully that @MBuhari watches his presidency become a stage for pediatric hirelings and mischievous crowd renters who have no merit to be in public office. Now factions of overfed incompetents are dancing naked in face of hungry Nigerians.

“The most dangerous and ridiculous saga I have seen is how @GodwinIEmefiele is now part of the present political shenanigans instead of paying keen attention to monetary policies. Ongoing CUPP theatrical press conference smacks of infighting by a derailed team of @MBuhari.

“Nigerians can now see in the open what we have always said that Nigerians are poor and insecure not because our problems of hunger and insecurity are hard to solve but because there is no proper government focusing on official agenda. @MBuhari runs a jungle of rival gangs after own money.”

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adebayo Adewole, has explained why the party is sticking to the manifesto of its former standard bearer and presumed winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential election, Moshood Abiola.

“The candidate we had in 1993 was a perfect candidate for 1993,” Adewole said during a live appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.

“The candidate we have for 2023 is a perfect candidate for 2023 with modern knowledge.

We need to make sure that we make investments in our people.

“Once we invest in all of those things, whether you’re in the North or South, I can guarantee you that an SDP government will be able to eradicate poverty in this country. At that time, we’ll have a new paradigm where people are being judged by the talent that they have and the ability they have to be productive.

“That was what we promised in 1993 in that book, ‘Farewell to Poverty,’ and that’s what we are promising now in ‘Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity.’ One thing is clear, the candidates are different. The only thing is that the candidate now is much improved,” he said

SDP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, PRINCE ADEWOLE ADEBAYO SPEAKS ON FIGHTING CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Prince Adewole Adebayo has said the fight against corruption in Nigeria needs to start from inside the government, for it to be successful.
He said his party will change the mode of fighting corruption, as Nigeria has been getting it wrong all these while.

Prince Adewole was speaking at the Centre for Awareness on Justice and Accountability (CAJA) Integrity Award Public Lecture, which held on Wednesday, 14th December 2022 in Kano State.
The theme of the event was ‘Promoting Integrity as a way of Fighting Corruption’.
He said, “We are getting something wrong in Nigeria; government cannot fight corruption in Nigeria, government can only fight corruption inside government. Why we have failed is that government is not fighting corruption inside government but is fighting corruption inside other people’s bed room, so we’ll change that”.
He further noted that there is a need to watch out for the institutions used to fight corruption because corruption is capable of capturing institutions.
“Corruption is dangerous to institutions; any institution that you can use to fight corruption, corruption will capture it. So we must watch out for institutions, including religious institutions”.
“The thieves sit in the front and the hard working people sit at the back when you go to the mosque or you go to the Church. So you have to make sure these institutions are not captured”, Prince Adewole said.
He further said that the government must be willing to keep policemen with integrity at the top in order to help tackle the problem of corruption.
“There’s a fight between the police and the government – a good police knows that people in government will go to jail, that is why they look around to look for bad policemen to put on top of the good policemen”.

SDP’s Adebayo charges CBN over currency control promise stronger institutions

Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) Prince Adewole Adebayo, says his administration will focus on creating powerful institutions that will aid in limiting governmental excesses.

At a Town Hall Meeting titled “Building Nigeria’s Steel, Petrochemical, and Agroallied Industries,” which was hosted by media giant Arise Television, he made this bold declaration as a guest.

He said that this was nothing new because Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, the country’s then-prime minister, included it in the first development plan for the years 1960 to 1965.

As part of the “import substitution program,” which aimed to lessen the importation of those minerals, Prince Adebayo noted that these plans gave rise to the development of the Ajaokuta Steel Plant, Ajala Steel, and other companies.

He added that the First Republic’s accomplishments were a result of public servant discipline, clearly defined objectives, and a powerful Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The legal practitioner turned politician claimed that the CBN was so powerful that the bank’s former governor stopped General Yakubu Gowon, the country’s head of state at the time, from using money to buy ammunition for the Civil War.

The CBN is currently too weak to stand up to the current administration, and a large portion of the proceeds from the sale of crude oil are missing and unreported.

Addressing the solutions, he stated: “We already have the solution, but I need to establish a government that will make things function. To make it work, the CBN will have complete control over the amount of money in circulation, the price of money, and inflation.

In terms of money spent, my government would also be answerable to the people. In order to sort out deteriorating and unfinished projects, we will also establish project management.
We’ll achieve this by developing an economy that will draw capital to finish those projects and provide a stable exchange rate.

Additionally, he pledged to lower unemployment rates, keep inflation at single digits, and build a social system that will thrive on brains.

SDP’s Prince Adewole Adebayo Promises Human Rights Reform

The Social democratic party (SDP) has promised to strengthen Nigeria’s human rights institutions and ensure institutional support for human rights and educate citizens more on the fundamentals of human right.
The party’s presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo said these during the Presidential Town Hall on Human Rights And The 2023 Elections which held on Saturday 10th December, in commemoration of the 2022 International Human Rights day.
The town hall was organized by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in collaboration with the United Nations Nigeria.
The commission invited presidential candidates to make presentations on how they intend to protect and fulfill the human rights of Nigerians should they be elected.
Prince Adebayo said his party will bring in a new crop of leadership that recognize human rights, and provide what the citizens need to uphold their dignity, which is what human rights demand.
He said, “Chapter 2 of the constitution says that there’s a level of dignity you must give to people and to give them that dignity, you must provide certain infrastructure in the society and the government is most equipped to make those changes”.
“That is why when you see the manifesto of the Social Democratic Party, why we are even called the social Democratic Party is that we believe that social investments in nutrition, in basic housing and habitats in education, in affordable health care in basic infrastructure will raise civilization to a point where there is less tension in the society”.
The SDP presidential candidate said human right like any other agenda in the society, and is a continuous engagement that requires full attention.
He further said human rights should be enshrined in Nigeria’s culture so that respecting human rights would become a part of life for everyone.
“We should look at human right as a culture. I’ve lived in many countries and in countries in which human rights are respected; it is not a government thing”.
“It is that generally that their society has gotten used to human rights, where you respect the rights of people generally”, Adebayo added.
The International Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10th December in commemoration of the adoption of universal declaration on human rights.
Other presidential candidates present to speak during the townhall included; Professor Christopher Imumolen of Accord party, Hamza Al-Mustapha of AA ; Omoyele Sowore of AAC; Yabagi Yusuf Sani Jakardan of ADP; and others.

SDP Adebayo blast CBN over withdrawal limit

Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has described the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, N100,000 a week withdrawal limit policy that will begin on January 9, 2023 as a plot against the masses and opposition.

While reacting to the new CBN policy, Adebayo said: “It is not a policy. It is a scorched-earth stratagem against the masses and perceived opposition.,

“While a cashless society is desirable, macroeconomic considerations warrant a well thought out plan to ensure that common people don’t suffer decline in productivity and financial intermediation hiccups that amount to virtual exclusion from mainstream economic participation.

“This rash measure taken by the Central Bank is yet another cosmetic bandage over a festering sore of fiscal irresponsibility, monetary recklessness and lax security settings. They won’t produce any desired results other than create income for promoters of payment systems.

“This is systematic capture of vast swathes of the financial transactions by those remote controlling the apex bank.

“I disagree with the measures just taken by the CBN. They need to be revised.” He concluded

INEC Urged Not To Abandon Use Of BVAS In Conducting 2023 General Election

Independent National Electoral Communication ( INEC ) has been urged to resist pressure from some political actors to abandon the use of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System ( BVAS ) in the forthcoming 2023 general election , saying the machines will ensure credible exercise .

This was the position of participants at a two-day workshop on Conflicts Sensitive Reporting in 2023 General Elections and Ways of Countering Fake News for journalists and Civil Society Organizations ( CSOs ) in North West States of Nigeria .

The capacity building workshop was organized by Centre For Democracy and Development ( CDD ) in partnership with Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ ) and Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC ) in an effort to ensure credible 2023 general election by training media practitioners and CSOs on coverage and reporting sensitive issues for a peaceful exercise in February next year .

Participants adopted a 12-point recommendations they said if adhered to , would guide and assist major actors in the 2023 elections to ensure a hitch-free exercise .

The communique , signed by Prof. Yahaya Baba and Abdullahi elKurebe as chairman and secretary of the five member drafting committee charged INEC to intensify efforts on voter education to enable electorate have knowledge about Electoral Acts and voters’ rights .

The position paper also called on the election umpire to ensure a level play ground for all candidates and parties participating in the election .

In view of the important roles of journalists , CSOs and security agencies in ensuring a peaceful exercise next year , the communique stressed the need for the actors to be adequately trained and be guided by Electoral Acts , extant laws , rules and regulations and above all professional ethics in their general conducts and discharge of duties during and after the 2023 elections .

Participants feared the prevalence of fake news in social and conventional media could undermine a peaceful election and therefore , urged media practitioners and CSOs to explore all necessary tools of verifying information before disseminating same to the general public .

The gathering observed that high-risk security areas may be a potent ground for election rigging and figures manipulation because voters may not turn out .

The communique recommended adequate security cover for journalists , CSOs , election officers and above all , the voting public , during and after the general election .

” While conventional news media should strive to avoid peddling fake news , Social Media should be trained on how to identify fake news and CSOs should collaborate with media to expose fake news .

” There is need for Journalists and CSOs collaboration on voter education , interactive sessions btw citizens and candidates of political parties , identification and timely reporting of conflicts sensitive issues with a view to maintaining peace and security before , during and after the 2023 election .

” CSOs and Journalists should launch sustainable campaign on negative consequences of vote-buying and selling .

” Journalists should update the general public on the election process and expose wrongdoings .

” Security agencies should remain neutral and be committed to ensuring peaceful and hitch-free 2023 conduct of elections , ” the communique added .

2023: CDD, INEC Train Journalists, CSOs On Conflict Sensitive Reporting

Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have trained no fewer than 29 journalists across the north-west zone on conflict sensitive reporting.

In his opening remarks, the Head of Department Voters’ Education, Publicity and Inclusivity of INEC, Adam Ahmad Maulud, charged the media on free, fair and credible elections coverage in the forthcoming elections.

Maulud who was represented by the Head of Unit Voters’ Education, Garba Ashiru at the opening of a two-day capacity building training in Kano on Wednesday, said that journalists must have knowledge of the political, economic and social environment of their assigned beat.

While speaking, Maulud further explained that journalists must also have the requisite knowledge of the law and the constitution, especially the laws guiding the conduct of elections.

He however, tasked journalists to rise above ethnic and religious profiling.

Also speaking, the CDD Director, Idayat Hassan, disclosed that the aim
of the training was to enhanced the capacity of journalists, especially those who may be assigned to cover the coming elections.

According to Kunle Abiodun, the programm Officer of CDD, who represented the Director, stressed the need for journalists to be objective and accurate in their reportage for better society, being the reason for the training.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of NUJ, Kano Council, Abbas Ibrahim, opined that the capacity building training was coming at the right time that the nation is preparing for another round of general elections come 2023.

The Kano Council Chairman who hosted other journalists across the north-west states also said that journalists must be more professional in the discharge of their duties, owing to the fact that the media is constitutionally empowered to hold the government and the governed accountable.

On the electoral act, the representative of INEC, Legal Office, Kano state, Badiya Lawal Ibrahim, disclosed that the new electoral act has addressed all issues relating to the election malpratices in Nigeria.

This is just as she explained that the section 3; sub 3 of the act provided that INEC should be funded one year before the conduct of the general elections, which according to her was to encourage free, fair and credible elections.
