Tension in Taraba governor’s community as monarch threatens to kill returning IDPs
There is an intense growing tension and likely hood of fresh killings along Wukari Rafinkada Road of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State as the Chief of Rafinkada, Garsheya Danasabe Tsasen has allegedly, continue to threaten, assault and harassed Internally Displaced Persons who have being trying to access their destroyed places.
Newsguide gathered that in the latest of the alleged unprovoked assaults and harassment, the Monarch had ordered for a physical assault of women and their children, young men and average aged men who attempted to return and farm around their destroyed homes.
It was also gathered that the Monarch had on several occasions, vowed that no single Tiv man in the area would ever return to the destroyed villages as far as he remained a chief in the area.
One of the victims whose father was thoroughly beaten on Saturday morning by some youths under the directives of Garsheya Danasabe Tsasen at Tor-Musa Village, Mr Iyorwuese Iyortyer Tor Musa, told our reporters that “the chief came around 9:00am in company of some youths when they were clearing the bush around their destroyed homes.
“We were working when the Chief came with the youths with their weapons. We were surprised seen them in that mood. Without any question, they started harassing us, telling us to go back to Benue and threatening to shoot us if we refuse to vacate the homes. When we insisted that we will not leave our homes because the government of the day had assured every one peace in the state, they insisted that peace had never returned between the Tiv and the Jukun communities in the area.
“The Chief became more infuriated when our father insisted that we were not going anywhere. He ordered the armed youths to bundled the old man into his car at gunpoint and whisked him away to Wukari town. He took him to the Acting Local Government Chairman, Alh Tanko Abdulrahman who ordered tha he should be release to go back to his home”. He narrated.
Similarly, residents of Tor-Iorshagher market, along same road, who had also returned to farm around their destroyed homes, reported that the Chief attacked them in a similar way and whisked away an average, pregnant woman, leaving her geown up children in tears.
Though the Chief of Rafinkada could not be reached through his phone as his line was off at the time of writing this report, the Head of Local Government Administration Wukari (HOLGA), Tanko Abdulraman, who is now in charge of the Local Government, denied knowledge of all the insidents.
“Please please I don’t know anything about that spare me from it”. He cut off the call and continue to resist subsequent calls put on his lines.
