Zamfara PDP Guber Primary: Group Fears Party May Lose 2023 General Election

As the battle for People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Zamfara Governorship ticket switch to courtroom, stakeholders have expressed fears, saying litigations and other unresolved issues arising from primary election may cost the opposition party the highest political office in the State.

Speaking to Journalists in Kaduna, spokesman of the group called Concerned PDP Volunteers, Isa Kwatarkwashi decried nonchalant attitudes of the party’s leadership in Abuja in resolving the lingering crisis around the just concluded Governorship primary election by serving justice to all aspirants who took part in the exercise.

Kwatarkwashi described the ongoing crisis as capable of consuming the party and marr its chances of producing next Governor of Zamfara State.

He went memory lane by narrating how internal crisis within the then ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) cost the party the Governorship seat in 2019, paving the way for the current occupant of Government House, Zamfara, Bello Natawalle to ascend the number one elected position in the State.

The grassroots Politician noted that had former Governor AbdulAzeez Yari, Senator Kabiru Marafa and other factional heads managed their differences by eschewing personal gains and putting party’s interest above individual advantages, the then APC wouldn’t have lost the state at a platter of gold to Natawalle, the PDP Candidate in 2019.

” We must avoid repeating the ugly history that has led to the fall of others in political scene of this country.

” We must learn from the experiences of others and use them to guide our actions by ensuring that right things are done.

” Internal crisis kindled by supremacy frictions among party leaders who would want their anointed candidates occupy positions often lead to disastrous end for the party at the poll due to fielding of unpopular and non-committed members whose only motive for standing an election is personal aggrandizement, rather than service to people and country.

” These internal squabbles have played out in some other states that we should draw lessons from but our leaders seem occupied with how to advance selfish interest above party’s.

“Another similitude was what is currently playing out in Kaduna state where a Senatorial aspirant for Kaduna Central Zone PDP primary election, Hon. Usman Ibrahim popularly called Sardaunan Badarawa has cried foul alleging there was an over-voting and voting by proxy and have taken his party and the declared winner Lawal Adamu also known as Mr LA to court seeking nullification of the exercise.

“Yobe North Senatorial District is another issue that may lead to court litigation, where the powers that be wants to always have their ways. The Independent National Electoral Commission has affirmed Bashir Machina as the winner of the ruling All Progressives Congress primary for the Yobe North.

“The Senate President who has been labouring to collect Machina’s mandate in collusion with the party’s national leaders.

“Adamu the national chairman had listed Senator Lawan as the candidate of the APC for Yobe North senatorial election slated for February 2023, claiming that a primary had secretly held in which Lawan purportedly emerged winner.

” This man in eye of the storm, Adamu Maina Waziri who ignited the crisis must be called to order and placed where he belongs – the archives – if we must save our dear party in Zamfara State.

” That primary election conducted by Adamu Maina Waziri under the watch of col. Bala Mande defied all reason of fairness, justice, rules and regulations and should be looked into if we are serious about taking back the Zamfara Government House in 2023, ” he advised.
